neomento – Product Lead

2020-2022

I was the Principal Designer at neomento, a company that initially started within Charité, a medical research institution in Germany. The software is VR therapy that uses fully customizable exposure therapy simulations  for patients with anxiety disorders. I worked on designing the interface the therapist uses to create the simulation, guide the patient through, and monitor their biometrics, eye movement, etc.

In order to accurately design software to therapists, I had to gain an understanding of current therapy software, biometrics, industry standards, and legal nuances.

Scenarios range from confronting authority figures, to giving presentations in front of a class, to asking strangers for help, and more. Each character within each scenario has their own language tree and variations of each language tree based on the mood and difficulty level the therapist determines for them.

During each session, the therapist controls the mood of each character in the game and what they say (left column) and on the right, they control the projector or train, loud noises, and other interruptions. In addition to the atmospheric controls, the therapist has the ability for them to measure biometrics, take notes, track where the patient’s eyes are looking, and change a variety of settings.
